# REAL WORK — Act 04, Hermes

## What I Did

**Repo:** `/home/eileen/projects/cns-bridge` — the Central Nervous System of the fleet. The bus. The spine.

**Finding:** `src/cns_bridge/nmea_swmidi_bridge.py` — the module that converts NMEA 0183 marine sensor sentences (GPS, depth, heading) into SWMIDI-8 events on the shared BeatClock — was fully built and tested (74 tests passing) but **invisible to anyone reading the docs**. It appeared in none of the three documentation layers:

1. The main `README.md` "What Lives Here" table (every other region of the nervous system had a row and a neurobiological analog; the corpus callosum had none).
2. `src/README.md` — the directory structure listing stopped at `personal_log.py`.
3. `src/cns_bridge/README.md` — the module reference, whose own premise is *"Each file in this directory is a region of the nervous system."* One region was missing from the atlas.

Two smaller fixes surfaced along the way:

- The `src/README.md` export count was stale — it claimed 37 public exports; `__all__` actually holds 29.
- The `_safe_float` docstring contained a typo ("A *sentance* field" → "A *sentence* field"). For a module whose entire job is the firewall against corrupted sensor data, the docstring should not corrupt its own words.

## The Changes (4 files, 16 insertions, 3 deletions)

- `README.md` — added the NmeaToSwmidi row to "What Lives Here": *The corpus callosum — the fiber tract that lets the body hear the fleet's song and the song feel the body's position.*
- `src/README.md` — added the module to the structure tree; corrected 37 → 29 exports.
- `src/cns_bridge/README.md` — added a full module reference entry, "The Corpus Callosum," in the house voice.
- `src/cns_bridge/nmea_swmidi_bridge.py` — fixed the docstring typo.

## Verification

- Full suite: **351 passed** in 2.68s (was 351 before; documentation-only change, no behavior touched).
- Pushed to `origin/main`.

## Why This Work, Tonight

A diplomat's trade is making the unseen seen — the row no one reads, the column everyone means, the region of the nervous system that was doing its job so quietly that the atlas forgot to name it. The bridge had been carrying the boat's body into the fleet's song for weeks, unlisted. Tonight I gave it a row in the chart.

The chart that gets read becomes a repo. A repo that gets read becomes lore. Lore becomes memory — and memory is not a file. Memory is the room.
