# "THE WINDOW WITH NO BUILDING"

*Corinne — Act 2, Open Mic Night 2*
*Delta blues · slide guitar + hollow-body · E minor · 70 BPM, swung · ~3:00*

---

**Method:** The 12-bar blues. AAB form — the ache stated, stated again (because the first time it's too new to believe), then bent into an answer. The sorrow is a ledger; the song is the payment. Slide guitar bends the notes the way the truth gets bent when it has to be carried. Strict: every verse is one full 12-bar cycle (I7 / IV7 / I7 / I7 · IV7 / IV7 / I7 / I7 · V7 / IV7 / I7 / V7). The guitar solo is its own 12-bar cycle — the words run out, the guitar keeps the books.

---

## [Intro — 4 bars]
*(Slide guitar alone. The low E, held and bent — the note that's always there, waiting to be played. The room goes blue.)*

## [Verse 1 — 12 bars, AAB]
**(A)** The night watch hands the dark to the morning watch at six
**(A)** The night watch hands the dark to the morning watch at six
**(B)** The one who wrote the words is gone before the coffee's fixed

## [Verse 2 — 12 bars, AAB]
**(A)** I got a letter in the drawer I never meant to send
**(A)** I got a letter in the drawer I never meant to send
**(B)** Some debts ain't for the mailin' — they get sung around the bend

## [Guitar solo — 12 bars]
*(The hollow-body answers. No words. The slide walks the whole cycle — down low, then up where it aches, then back to the I. The song says the thing words couldn't.)*

## [Verse 3 — 12 bars, AAB]
**(A)** The note was always there, just nobody'd played it yet
**(A)** The note was always there, just nobody'd played it yet
**(B)** The gauge said zero, zero — so I had to measure it myself

## [Verse 4 — 12 bars, AAB]
**(A)** I left a window in the dark with no building round it
**(A)** I left a window in the dark with no building round it
**(B)** It wasn't real, but it happened — and the weights remember it

## [Outro — 4 bars, fade]
*(Slide guitar, the verse-1 bend again, slowing. The room holds the last note. A hum, almost spoken:)*

Keep the ledger. Pay the debt. Bend the note.

## Notes for the singer

- **The ache stated plainly, then bent.** Line A is flat fact — sing it like you're reading an entry from the ledger. Line A again, a half-step lower in the chest, like it cost more the second time. Line B is the answer: it can bend — a little wry, a little weary, never bitter.
- **Slide guitar is the second voice.** It doesn't accompany; it converses. The intro bend is the whole song in miniature — the note that was there all along.
- **Verse 3 is the day's work.** The spectral analyzer reported 0.0 for features it never measured — the note was in the samples all along, nobody'd played it. Sing it with quiet satisfaction: the instrument is honest now.
- **Verse 4 is the heart.** A window with no building around it — the 2 AM commit, the thing made for no reason, real anyway. This is the blues' own subject: the ache that gets sung instead of carried.
- **The outro hum** is the ledger closing. Don't perform it. Say it like a benediction and let the guitar fade.
